LIMITED EDITION PRINTS FAQ

frequently asked questions

Q: What is Piezo / Giclée Printing?

A: This sophisticated reproduction technology not only utilises more colours than regular printing, but also has an unparalleled vibrancy, detail and longevity.  This is why this Piezo method, more commonly called 'Giclée' printing is widely regarded as the very best fine art printing method currently available. This is why it has been embraced by so many galleries, artists and museums as their preferred method of art reproduction.

Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is an extremely high quality ink-jet printing process that produces beautiful digital reproductions that last much longer than those produced using traditional 'commercial' printing techniques. For this reason, it is the printing technique that we use for all our editions.

The word "Giclée" comes from the French verb "to spray" - and refers to the ink being sprayed onto the paper/canvas reproducing high definition digital scans of the original work of art.

Q: What do you mean when you refer to museum or archive quality?

A: The very latest and finest quality inks are said to offer up to 100+ years light-fastness and UV-resistance. This longevity standard is often referred to as museum or archive quality. Meaning that each Limited Edition print will give you and your family many generations of pleasure.

Q: What does Limited Edition Mean?

A: Each print run is limited to only 88 reproductions in each format. These are hand numbered and come with a corresponding certificate of authenticity personally signed by the artist.

Q: Can I get a specific numbered print?

A: In the interests of fairness, we operate a strict first-come, first-served policy - whereby prints are allocated in order, starting from print No.1, from the date that payment is received.

Q: Are these works collectable like an investment?

A: As discussed previously the high quality of a limited edition Ran Andrews fine art print will bring generations of pleasure and as such represents superior value for the dollar over time. It must also be said that it is possible due to an active market in limited edition contemporary art works that the value may indeed appreciate in the future. We believe that because the nature of the art market is so unpredictable buying prints solely as an investment is a risky undertaking. The only reason to purchase a work of art is because you like it. If the value rises over time then that is a nice happy accident.
